What’s the Canada Greener Homes Grant?
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is an incentive program helping Canadians make their homes more energy efficient by supplementing the cost of energy-efficient retrofits and home energy evaluations.
Eligibility Requirements for Heat Pumps
To qualify for the grant, you must choose an eligible heat pump and have it installed by a licensed and trained professional. Additionally, all equipment must be purchased in Canada. Online purchases are only eligible if they’re ordered from a distributor located in Canada.
Ground Source Heat Pump
Two grants are available for approved ground source heat pumps. If you install an entirely new system, you can qualify for up to $5,000 in grants. If you’re replacing an old heat pump unit, you can qualify for a grant worth up to $3,000.
Air Source Heat Pump
There are three levels of grants available for eligible air source heat pumps. Here’s an overview of each:
- Cold climate heat pumps and ENERGY STAR® certified heat pumps consisting of a mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system with two warm air supply outlets or indoor heads qualify for up to $2,500
- ENERGY STAR® certified heat pumps consisting of a central ducted system OR a mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system with three or more warm air supply outlets or indoor heads qualify for up to $4,000
- Cold climate heat pumps consisting of a central ducted system OR mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system with three or more warm air supply outlets or indoor heads qualify for $5,000
Heat Pump Water Heater
If you replace your residential water heater with an ENERGY STAR® certified domestic heat pump water heater, you can get up to $1,000 in grant money.
Additional Efficiency Manitoba Grant
Did you know you can save even more with Efficiency Manitoba’s heat pump program? You could qualify for up to $1.65 per square foot for installing a new air source heat pump and up to $2.50 per square foot for upgrading to a ground source heat pump. Plus, Efficiency Manitoba offers a stacking bonus. They’ll give you $250 for participating in both the provincial Home Energy Retrofits and the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
